The Thrill and Excitement of Street Racing

The Thrill and Excitement of Street Racing

All of us love racing including street racing. you just never know who is going to win until the race is over.

In most cases, street racing is not sanctioned which  leads to a less strictly regulated environment than sanctioned racing.

It’s not uncommon to see two vehicles line-up at a streetlight, one challenges the other, and when the lght changes to green they take off as fast as they know how. Illegal street racing is not a something new. It’s been going on ever since the days of the Model T Ford.

Street racing is a form of motor racing which takes place on public roads. It may be unsanctioned and illegal, either spontaneous or well-planned and coordinated. Street racing is said to have started before the 1930s due to alcohol prohibition in the southern United States. Remember the “Dukes of Hazard” TV Series?

Open Road Racing is the most dangerous form of racing in the world  ”Do Not Try It On The Public Highways Without The Approval Of The Highway Patrol. it is very dangerous without proper supervision and safety control, and will be frowned on by the authorities.

The excitement of street racing when law enforcement is certain to give chase may lead to Traffic collisions, including fatalities and trespassing on private property.

Racing is an exciting sport that requires training, discipline and skill. The streets are no place for racing.

Athough racing on our streets will never cease, it can be reduced. You need to understand that street racing is a social activity. People gather somewhere such as in a parking lot with friends and someone challenges another to a race. After the race is over they return to the same parking lot to hang out with friends. Some cities recognized this and have opened drag strips for people to race, socialize and interact.

The best way to eliminate or reduce street racing is to provide an appropriate place for it to occur. Until then,  they’ll continue to race on our streets and highways.

A lot of people enjoy building street stock race cars.
If you do the work yourself, you can save a considerable amount of money. It can be time consuming but if you follow these steps you can build a street stock race car.

  • Find an old wrecked car. Strip off everything that can be unbolted. Remove the engine, transmission, doors and fenders. Don’t throw anything away as you may need it later.
  • Take out all the glass.
  • Use a sawzall with a metal cutting blade to cut out the top of the car. Keep it to reinstall after installation of roll bars.
  • Clean thoroughly all surfaces, both inside and out and make sure all grease, oil and tar are gone.
  • Paint the chassis with a light color.
  • Weld 1-1/2″ Heavy gauge square tubing 5″ long to the sides of the chassis. Weld them 8″ from front, 18″ back from center, and 13″ from the rear.
  • Set the body on chassis as far back as possible and bolt it down.
  • Build and install or purchase a cage kit and replace and weld the roof back on.
  • Install your racing engine and transmission into the race car.
  • Reassemble the car using the saved parts and replace any that are old and worn.

More information is available online.

Keep it legal, keep it safe and enjoy your racing.
